The Zhejiang trade mission, consisting of the province's 17 well-known exporters, seven key importation platform enterprises, and over 100 purchasing agent companies, are attending the inaugural China International Consumer Products Expo held in Haikou, capital of Hainan province, from May 7 to 10.

A 500-square-meter Zhejiang-themed exhibition booth was set up in the middle of the expo area, focusing on the province's socioeconomic development, e-commerce platforms, and well-known brands involving smart security, jewelry and ornaments, seafood, silk, tea, and more.

Yang Jiechen, procurement manager of Hangzhou Lianhua Huashang Group Co, gave an interview to local media before heading to Hainan for the expo. Yang said that he had meticulously studied the layout and name lists of the expo's exhibitors and spotted a number of foreign brands for dairy, biscuits, and other Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) which could be his company's potential business partners.

Yang regards the expo as a rare opportunity for his company to engage with global brands, as many international fairs have been postponed or cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "After all, video conferences are not quite as effective for business negotiations. Offline expos offer much higher chances for the establishment of business collaborations," Yang said. According to Yang, Hangzhou Lianhua Huashang Group Co had already got in touch with Theland, Anthropologie, Kjeldsens, and some other overseas brands prior to the expo and hopes to establish stronger cooperation with them at the expo.

Some Zhejiang-based internet enterprises are also pinning high hopes on the expo for business opportunities. A senior manager of Panshi Group told the reporter that the company has set up a dedicated international trade livestream zone inside the Zhejiang-themed exhibition booth, in which company staff will promote Zhejiang products in English. Panshi Group will also sign strategic cooperation agreements during the expo with governments in Sanya and Haikou to build digital industrial parks there.

The Zhejiang trade mission plans to host a dedicated conference to match multinational corporation investors with the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone during the expo.
