Jiaxing boosts hydrogen industry development

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province aims to become a demonstration city in China for the development of the hydrogen industry in five years, said Sheng Quansheng, deputy mayor of Jiaxing.
Sheng made the remarks the 2021 Jiaxing Hydrogen Industry Development Summit, which was held in the city on July 23.
He said that Jiaxing aims to have a complete hydrogen industrial chain and infrastructure, as well as various application scenarios within the next five years.
The city boasts four major advantages in developing its hydrogen industry, according to Wang Rong, deputy director of the Jiaxing economy and information technology bureau.
Jiaxing has a solid foundation for the chemical and new material industries, which produce a large amount of high-quality hydrogen as their by-product.
An industrial chain featuring hydrogen preparation, storage, transportation, and fueling, as well as the core components of hydrogen equipment and fuel cell power systems has basically taken shape in Jiaxing.
A total of 104 hydrogen buses have operated in the city, where four hydrogen fueling stations, as well as a combined heating and power generation system by hydrogen cells have been established.
Jiaxing has also rolled out a series of policies to support the cluster development of the hydrogen industry and included the industry's development into its 15-year plan.
Fei Weiyang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that innovation will be the main driving force for energy conservation and emission reduction. In addition, the hydrogen industrial chain in Jiaxing makes it possible to efficiently achieve these goals and maintain sustainable development.
Another attendee at the summit Zhang Jiujun, dean of the School of Science at Shanghai University, discussed the status quo, challenges, and prospects of hydrogen fuel cells for vehicles.
Zhang added that the industrial development of fuel cells needs to complete two tasks, which are cost reduction and the popularization of hydrogen fueling stations.
