As the last wind-driven generator for the Shengsi No 2 Offshore Power Plant was successfully combined to the grid Nov 28, it marked the completion of the whole project's construction one month ahead of schedule.

The plant has 63 wind-driven generators, totaling 399.95 megawatts in installed capacity, a record high for offshore power plants in Zhejiang province.

Once operational, the plant will be able to generate 1.099 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, equivalent of the annual power consumption for 500,000 local households. It also cuts standard coal consumption by 354,000 metric tons and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 726,000 metric tons.

The project is part of Zhejiang authorities' efforts to optimize energy use, catering to the national goal of peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060.

The project, launched by Zhejiang Energy Group on July 17, 2020, proceeded smoothly despite multiple difficulties like robust tides, volatile weather, strained resources, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
