Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, launched a cultural activity series on Jan 12 to celebrate the upcoming 19th Asian Games and Spring Festival.

The activities were jointly organized by the Hangzhou municipal publicity department, the municipal federation of literature and arts, the Hangzhou culture, radio, TV, and tourism bureau, and the Gongshu district government.

People working for the cultural industry in Hangzhou gave performances at the launch ceremony, including songs and dances related to the 19th Asian Games, a one-man show entitled A Civilized Pioneer, opera mixes, and acrobatic feats.

Around 10 skilled artists from the city's painting and calligraphy academy gifted handwritten Spring Festival couplets and Fu, a Chinese character meaning "fortune" or "good luck", to local residents. Fu is usually written on pieces of square red paper and pasted upside down on the front door of Chinese households, indicating that Fu has already arrived.

The cultural workers will also visit rural areas, residential communities, construction sites, companies, and military troops in the near future, sending New Year greetings to people there with Spring Festival couplets, Fu posters, window decorations, books, and videos.
