June 22, 2022 marked the eighth anniversary of the Grand Canal's entry into UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list.

On this day, an event was held in Gongshu district, Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang province to commemorate the occasion and raise public awareness of the importance of protecting cultural heritages. With a history of over 2,500 years, the Grand Canal, a vast system of waterways connecting Beijing in the north with Hangzhou in the south, once served as a significant transportation artery in ancient China.
