The Yangtze River Detla region, one of the country's most populated and economically developed city clusters, announced the launch of a creation and research center specializing on documentaries in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on April 8.

Titled as China Yangtze River Delta Documentary Creation and Research Center, the venue is located at Hangzhou City University and aims to achieve a series of goals, ranging from academic research to cultivating talents and boosting industrial exchanges.

Within three to five years, the center plans to produce a quality documentary, aiming to win a national-level award, establishing a research database, compiling an academic book, and holding an event to promote Chinese documentaries.

Hu Zhanfan, chairman of the China Television Artists Association, said the center's establishment will bring new vitality and energy to the cultural industry and film and television arts education in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Li Dongdong, director of the center, said the region – consisting of Shanghai and three provinces, namely Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui – has the largest economic output in the country, and has also been a traditional industry base for Chinese documentary production.

With these unique creative resources and advantages in theoretical research, Li, also a veteran producer who has won over 50 awards, said the center will strive to promote the healthy development of documentary creation and research in the region.
