A village basketball tournament started in Diankou town, Zhuji, on April 9 and will run until June 18.

The event will feature over 700 games.

Known for its rich basketball heritage, Zhuji was recognized by Shanghai Guinness as the county-level city with the most standard basketball courts in China (2,232) in 2011.

The city also holds the Guinness record for hosting "the largest simultaneous basketball game" when 4,416 teams comprising 26,460 people played the sport at the same time in the same year.

Over the years, Zhuji has hosted many high-quality events to promote its reputation as a "basketball city".

For example, it has since 2018 hosted more than 800 Chinese Basketball Association games. It is also the only county-level city in CBA history to host both an all-star weekend and a complete CBA season.
