Zhejiang to celebrate International Museum Day with pizazz

The main event for East China's Zhejiang province to mark International Museum Day 2023 will soon be held in Lishui, a city with a long history and serene beauty.

The event will feature a great variety of activities to showcase the role of museums in fostering positive change for the environment and society, according to the organizers.

The events include:

1/ Opening ceremony

Location: East gate square of Lishui Museum

Time: 9:30 am, May 15

Several awards such as the Zhejiang's Most Innovative Museum of 2023 and The Zhejiang Museum Top 100 Treasures will be announced and the Rural Museum Map will be launched.

2/ Museum cultural and creative market

Location: East gate square of Lishui Museum

Time: 7:00 pm-9:00 pm, May 14; 9:00 am-12:00 am, May 15

More than 60 State-owned museums, private museums, rural museums, cultural and creative enterprises and intangible cultural heritage workshops from across the province will display their products and services.

3/ Public welfare appraisal of folk collections

Location: North gate square of Lishui Museum

Time: 9:00 am-12:00 am, May 15

Provincial cultural experts will provide appraisal services for residents.

4/ Wonderful tour at Lishui Museum

Location: Lishui Museum

Time: 10:10 am-11:30 am, May 15

The museum will provide an especially designed immersive experience that starts with a small concert in the lobby and continues through to various exhibition halls – with treasure hunting, ancient and modern dialogues, a She ethnic group welcome performance and more.

5/ Academic seminar on Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing

Location: Kuocang B Hall, Lishui Poetry Hotel

Time: 2:00 pm-5:30 pm, May 15

Keynote speakers including An Laishun, the president of the International Council of Museums Asia-Pacific Alliance, will give talks and six leading  representatives will present their research findings.

6/ Special exhibition of Ming and Qing export porcelain

Location: Lishui Museum temporary exhibition hall

Time: May 15-Aug 20

This is a collaborative exhibition between the Lishui Museum and the Lishui Overseas Returned Exported Porcelain Museum, showcasing exported porcelain from the Ming and the Qing dynasties (1368-1911).
