The 7th Conference of East Asia Research Association for Agricultural Heritage Systems will be held on June 5-7 in Qingyuan county, Lishui City – located in East China's Zhejiang province – the organizers said at a news conference on May 19.

The Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems – or GIAHS – is an initiative launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2002.

Three years later, the renowned rice-fish co-culture system of Lishui's Qingtian county became the first GIAHS site in China and in fact was one of the first group of GIAHS sites recognized in the world.

In 2022, Qingyuan county's forest-mushroom co-culture system became the fourth GIAHS site in Zhejiang province. Lishui also became the only prefecture-level city with two GIAHS sites in China.

Focusing on the theme of protecting agricultural heritage and promoting food system transformation, the conference will hold four seminars on frontier areas – looking at heritage protection and utilization, agricultural biodiversity and product development, tourism and cultural inheritance and finally ecosystem protection and restoration.

The conference will also fully display Lishui's latest achievements in protecting and utilizing GIAHS.
