Zhejiang launches 6th legal aid volunteer initiative
A total of 13 lawyer volunteers and rotating lawyers from seven law firms will be dispatched to conduct one year of volunteer service in 20 mountainous and island counties, cities, and districts in Zhejiang.
The services include providing legal advice to local residents, conducting legal awareness campaigns, mediating disputes, among others, in an effort to further enhance the legal awareness of local residents and uphold social fairness and justice.
In addition, lawyer volunteers will actively provide legal advice, advising local party committees and governments, assisting grassroots organizations in making lawful decisions, democratic management, and promoting the balance of public legal services and local legal development.
Since its launch at the end of 2018, the project has seen a total of 116 lawyer volunteers in five batches dispatched to 21 mountainous and island counties, cities, and districts in the province, providing legal aid services to over 200,000 people.
They helped generate over 60 million yuan ($8.4 million) in economic benefits, promoting the economic and social development of counties and providing stronger legal guarantees for Zhejiang's high-quality development and its pursuit to achieve common prosperity.
