The Jiaxing maritime bureau reported that in 2023, Jiaxing Port handled 124,000 ships and processed a cargo throughput of 140 million metric tons, marking increases from last year of 20.7 percent and 5.44 percent, respectively, and setting new historical highs.

The outstanding achievement can be attributed to the optimization of processes which enhance efficiency. The bureau optimized customs clearance procedures, elevated the level of government services, and implemented measures to enhance vessel security.

The Jiahaitong integrated traffic organization scenario, also introduced by the bureau, encompasses pilotage, agency, and terminal management. Since its launch, it has facilitated approximately 50,000 vessel movements, raising the berthing rate from 40 percent to 70 percent. This has reduced vessel waiting time by about 50,000 hours, saving nearly 300 million yuan ($41.99 million) in economic costs, and curbing carbon dioxide emissions by over 60,000 tons.

In addition, the bureau established the Yangtze River Delta sea-river intermodal hub port, enhancing the safety and efficiency of inland waterway vessels. This initiative has led to notable growth in container traffic and river-sea transportation.
