Authorities in East China's Zhejiang province recently issued implementation opinions to strengthen science education in primary and middle schools.
Zhejiang will continue to promote the involvement of scientists in schools, arranging for 1,000 scientists (including science and technology professionals) to serve as vice-principals for science at primary and middle schools.
According to the opinions, Zhejiang will integrate both on-campus and off-campus resources, and strengthen collaboration between primary and middle schools and universities, research institutes, science museums, and technology business parks. This is meant to broaden students' scientific perspectives and bolster science education, expanding social channels and narrowing urban-rural gaps.
The opinions propose that Zhejiang coordinate the province's scientists, technology professionals, experts, and scholars to carry out activities related to science education. These initiatives aim to stimulate the curiosity of primary and middle school students in scientific exploration.
Meanwhile, Zhejiang plans to establish 10,000 "home laboratories for young people", helping parents teach their children about science and engage in scientific research activities at home.
In addition, the opinions advocate the establishment of an urban-rural science education alliance in Zhejiang, channeling more high-quality popular science resources to mountainous and island areas in the province.
