Wenzhou's Pan Zhanle clinches fourth gold medal at world aquatics championships

On Feb 18, at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar, the Chinese team, featuring Pan Zhanle, Wang Haoyu, Li Bingjie, and Yu Yiting, secured victory in the men's and women's mixed 4x100m freestyle relay with a record-breaking time of 3 minutes and 21.18 seconds.

This win marked Pan's fourth gold medal at the championship, equalling the record set by Qin Haiyang at the Fukuoka World Championships and surpassing Sun Yang's achievement from 2013.

With this latest victory, the Chinese swimming team has amassed a total of seven gold, two silver, and one bronze medals, setting a new record for their best performance at the World Championships.

Pan Zhanle's remarkable achievements began on Feb 12 when he shattered the men's 100m freestyle world record with a stunning time of 46.8 seconds, leading the Chinese team to their first victory in the men's swimming relay world championship.

Continuing his stellar performance, Pan claimed his first individual gold medal at the world championships, winning the men's 100m freestyle in 47.53 seconds.

Adding to his accolades, Pan secured another gold medal on Feb 17 in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay, earning him the title of "triple crown" winner for the Chinese team at this championship.

Pan's outstanding performances have solidified his status as a rising star in the world of swimming, bringing glory to his hometown of Wenzhou and inspiring a new generation of athletes.
