Kang Bangcheng has secured a coveted spot to compete in the 47th WorldSkills Competition, set to be held in Lyon, France, this September.
A student from Ningbo Gulin Vocational High School, Kang clinched the top position in the final selection trial for the competition's western cuisine cooking segment, which took place in Shanghai on March 20.
During the rigorous two-day final selection round, participants competed in four modules: appetizers, soups, main courses, and desserts. Each step, from preparation and cooking to presentation, had to be meticulously timed and executed in accordance with technical regulations.
The challenges faced by the competitors were both physical and mental. Kang remarked, "In an unfamiliar temperature environment, with unfamiliar equipment and ingredients, contestants had to complete four dishes within 10 hours. The final selection posed a great challenge."
Kang's triumph is not only a personal one, but also a milestone within Ningbo's vocational education system, as he is the first vocational student from the city to represent China in the global competition.
Ningbo Gulin Vocational Senior High School has been actively involved in the WorldSkills Competitions, serving as the training base for the 44th, 45th, 46th, and now the 47th editions of the contest since 2016.
