A team from the Zhejiang Wuju Opera Art Research Institute (Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe) in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, was invited to give performances at the reception to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil on Aug 15.

The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Brazil. Approximately 400 guests attended, including Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao, Brazilian dignitaries like Speaker of the House Arthur Lira and Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes, and representatives of overseas Chinese.

This is the second time that the Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe has been invited to Brazil. Their performances commenced with a mesmerizing dragon dance, followed by traditional Wuju Opera excerpts and a flute rendition of the Brazilian folk song Lambada, eliciting resounding applause and cheers from the audience.

Founded in 1956, the Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe is committed to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Wuju Opera. With a collection of over 800 theatrical works, singing methods and specific tunes, traditional costume patterns, and facial makeup designs, the troupe has safeguarded invaluable traditional art forms while creating and presenting many exceptional productions.
