Young rural operators breathe new life into Ningbo village
Armed with a background in France and a master's degree, Wang Hanhan, a young and driven village CEO, is leading the way with innovative strategies to boost the tourism, agriculture, and homestay industry of Xiejieshan village in Ningbo, Zhejiang province.
A unique "brainstorming session" for rural industry development recently took place in the village. At the forefront was Wang, convening the meeting alongside two rural operators.
"Xiejieshan in Dayan town boasts stunning scenery and abundant resources, making it a renowned historical and cultural village in Ningbo," Wang told Ningbo Daily. "Since taking up the role of the village's CEO last year, my team and I have been holding weekly 'brainstorming sessions' to spur ideas that can boost villagers' incomes."
To enhance the village's appeal, Wang has organized various events like a flower-themed tour and a pork feast festival, which have transformed Xiejieshan into an attractive tourist destination. These initiatives have not only increased footfall but also boosted business for local homestays.
Wang and her team have also leveraged their multilingual skills to promote local produce, such as peaches, through short videos that have gained international attention.
With the recent popularity of the film "Moments We Shared," which was filmed in Dayan town, Wang's team is now exploring ways to convert this cinematic buzz into lasting tourism momentum for Xiejieshan.
Looking ahead, she plans to deepen the integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism within the village and establish a rural practice base for college students to attract more young talent to villages.
