The 2024 China National Computer Congress, hosted by the China Computer Federation, commenced in Hengdian town, Dongyang — a county-level city in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on Oct 24.
With 17 academicians and over 10,000 experts, scholars, and industry leaders from the global computer science domain, the three-day event is aimed at exploring and exchanging the latest in theoretical, technological, and industrial advancements in computing.
CNCC is the largest and most prestigious computer science event in China. This is the first time it has been held in a town, fostering deep interactions with the film industry in Hengdian. It features forums focusing on "AI and Future Imaging" and "AI with Film Creation".
Tang Weiqing, secretary-general of the China Computer Federation, highlighted the congress's connection to the ongoing construction of the China Computer Federation Computer Museum in Hengdian. The museum, set to be the world's largest computer museum, will also serve as a science education center and research base for the federation after its completion in 2026.
"This may be the first time our film experts have participated in the CNCC as a team. The dialogue between the film experts and the computer science community is exciting, and I think it's a historic moment," said Sun Lijun, vice-president of the Beijing Film Academy. He envisioned leveraging AI to create exceptional Chinese films.
Hengdian's proactive stance in embracing emerging technologies is evident, particularly in applying cutting-edge LED digital virtual shooting technology in studios, which aims to revolutionize film production cycles. To date, more than 4,000 3D digital models have been stored, which can shorten the production cycle by more than 40 percent.
