This year marks the 10th anniversary of Romanian businessman Sorin Sirbu's life in Jinhua, Zhejiang province. Over the past decade, Sorin has transformed his company into a strong high-tech enterprise while becoming deeply integrated into the local community.
In 2014, Sorin, who was involved in electric scooter exports in Shanghai, decided to establish his own production line after facing inconsistent quality from component suppliers. Drawn to Jinhua's well-developed automotive parts industry, he relocated and founded Zhejiang E-twow Electric Vehicle Co in January 2015.
Starting with just three people, including his wife, the company initially assembled components from other suppliers.
The warm support from the local government during his early days made a lasting impression on him, including guidance on tax policies, which saved the company time and costs.
This support, combined with China's rapid development, has been central to E-twow's success. The Zhejiang China-Europe freight train service, launched in 2014, provided a quicker route to European markets, while the establishment of the Jinyi Sector of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone in 2020 brought benefits like tax incentives and patent subsidies.
Under these favorable conditions, E-twow has seen remarkable growth. With over 100 employees, it exports products to over 70 countries, generating an annual output of 150 million yuan ($21.09 million). Over 90 percent of its components are developed independently, with more than 50 patents.
Sorin's affection for Jinhua goes beyond business. He values the city's warmth, recalling a touching encounter with an elderly couple who invited him to share a meal.
Now a permanent resident of China, Sorin has made Jinhua his home, where his daughter was born and raised. "For me, living here is like heaven," he said.
Sorin's story is a testament to Jinhua's welcoming environment and development opportunities. As an "international ambassador" for Jinhua, he encourages global entrepreneurs to explore its potential and settle down.
