International students in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, got a taste of traditional Chinese culture on Sept 26 when they gathered at Shacun Village Folk Museum in Tangxi town to join residents in crafting mooncakes and decorative lanterns for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Oct 6 this year.
The students, from Germany, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Indonesia, were guided by skilled artisans and taught how to knead, fill, and shape dough into delicate, plum blossom-shaped mooncakes. Participants enjoyed tasting their creations while capturing photos to remember the festive day.
The lantern-making session allowed them to work in pairs, where they carefully cut, painted, and combined materials to create intricate lantern pieces that glowed softly when lit.
Wu Min, deputy secretary of the Party Committee at the Business School of Ningbo University, said that the program utilizes local resources to provide students with immersive cultural experiences, allowing them to feel the charm of traditional culture in a hands-on and engaging setting.
