Actress Lan Yingying, a promotional ambassador for She ethnic culture, appeared at Milan Fashion Week wearing the "phoenix dress", instantly drawing wide admiration.
The dress incorporates 10 intangible cultural heritage elements of the She people, including traditional wedding customs, vibrant ribbons, and intricate embroidery.
This appearance was part of a cultural initiative jointly launched by the authorities of Jingning She autonomous county in Zhejiang province's Lishui, Lan Yingying's team, and Yowant Technology, aiming to promote She culture globally.
Yowant Technology said it would translate the dress's creation story into universally understandable visual language.
Professor Xia Fan from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University praised this fusion of ethnic tradition and modern fashion, noting its potential to enhance the global profile of She culture.
He added that Jingning, China's only She autonomous county, with four national and 21 provincial intangible cultural heritages, could use this event as a starting point, extending the promotion model to She folk songs and traditional sports, creating a multifaceted international communication pattern.
Jingning now produces over 70 percent of She ethnic clothing nationwide. The county has established local technical standards for She embroidery and attire, supporting cultural preservation.
A Jingning official said that this international exposure would accelerate industry growth, with continued efforts in cultural research and global exchanges showcasing She culture worldwide.
