The Thomas Ruff Academic Exchange took place at the Lishui Photography Museum on Nov 9.

Seventeen domestic and international scholars gathered to discuss the essence of photography, digital innovation, and artistic creation, providing theoretical and academic support for further research on Ruff's work and the creative practices of photographers.

Thomas Ruff, a key figure in the Dusseldorf School, has consistently challenged the boundaries of photography. Through methods such as ready-made images, technical interventions, and digital reconstruction, he has overcome the structural and technical constraints of visual discourse, contributing significantly to the global diversification of photography.

During the symposium, experts analyzed the curatorial approach and creative concepts behind Ruff's ongoing solo exhibition, Thomas Ruff: A Mind Map of Photography. Departing from a chronological narrative, the exhibition systematically categorized 91 works into 18 series, highlighting their interrelationships and underlying logic.

The symposium also explored the multifaceted impact of AI technology on image creation, prompting in-depth reflection and discussion. Thomas Ruff responded to questions from scholars and media representatives.

Lishui Photography Festival has consistently upheld its international and academic standards, attracting globally acclaimed photographers.
