Quzhou's Longyou county sees surge in bamboo product exports
In the bustling production facility of Longyou Qichang Bamboo Products, based in Longyou county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, machines hum as bamboo is transformed into fragrant incense cores. After passing inspection by Quzhou Customs, these products are set to be shipped to India.
"International markets have stringent requirements for bamboo products," said Pan Qichang, the company's general manager. "Since October, the company's export value has increased by 12 percent year-on-year."
Longyou county, a major bamboo-producing area in Zhejiang, boasts over 270 square kilometers of bamboo forests with 88 million bamboo plants. Leveraging this rich resource, the county has developed a comprehensive bamboo industry value chain including bamboo planting, processing, and selling.
From January to October, the local bamboo industry's exports reached 120 million yuan ($16.89 million), a 10.1 percent increase year-on-year.
Longyou's bamboo products include bamboo fiber products, bamboo crafts, and bamboo shoot products.
At Longyou Foreign Trade Bamboo Shoot Factory, trade specialist Zhang Yu applies to Quzhou Customs for phytosanitary and health certificates through an online platform, enabling the export of a batch of seasoned bamboo shoots worth 64,000 yuan to Europe.
According to Zhang, the company has been engaged in foreign trade since 1997 and has exported seasoned bamboo shoots and other products to Asia, Europe, and Australia.
Quzhou Customs continues to support Longyou's bamboo industry by optimizing pre-export supervision, implementing remote inspections, and promoting self-service printing of origin and inspection certificates, reducing storage costs and speeding up customs clearance.
