Meigao Short Drama Super Factory, a filming base located in Qujiang district, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, features over 20 custom-built sets for international film crews.
"These sets enable foreign crews to start filming immediately, supporting the international expansion of Qujiang's short dramas," said Ying Haichao, head of Meigao Short Drama Super Factory.
A short drama is a very brief, episodic television series, designed for online viewing on mobile devices.
The journey of Qujiang's short dramas into overseas markets began with the export of finished products that were filmed by domestic crews. Since the start of the year, Meigao Culture Media has sold over 30 short dramas to international markets, with the highest overseas viewing count for a single work reaching over 20 million.
Feedback from international platforms has revealed cultural and narrative gaps in domestic productions. To address this, Qujiang adopted a new development model of attracting foreign film crews to shoot short dramas at the factory, with a North American crew filming My Ex-Wife in August of this year.
The Meigao facility spans 66,000 square meters and includes over 200 high-spec sets for various modern scenes. It supports simultaneous filming by up to 30 crews, enabling seamless transitions between sets in under five minutes.
Qujiang's comprehensive service system includes script development, equipment rental, and post-production, ensuring efficient production for international teams. The district also supports the industry through policies such as free intercity transport for crew members and financial incentives.
