A delegation of 20 artists from South Korea visited Ningbo on Jan 6 for an immersive cultural exchange.

Their journey took them to Zoumatang village in Jiangshan town and Wenhui Community in Xiaying subdistrict, where they joined villagers in drum performances, learned Peking Opera, and sampled traditional Ningbo snacks.

At Zoumatang's Jinshi Square, South Korean artists and local residents performed the classic piece Cang Hai Yi Sheng Xiao, blending South Korean percussion with Chinese drum rhythms.

The lively collaboration continued a friendship that began in August 2025, when Ningbo cultural envoy Chen Lina brought a special folk art exhibition to South Korea. Zoumatang's traditional Jinshi cake and Ningbo's traditional culture left a deep impression on locals, inspiring the South Korean artists to make a return visit.

In Wenhui Community, the delegation experienced a festive new year‑themed cultural program. The aroma of braised vegetable rice cakes quickly won them over, and they praised the flavors as being distinct from South Korean rice cakes.

They also tried Peking Opera under the guidance of former Ningbo troupe performer Bai Haiying, donning ornate costumes and practicing classic gestures.

A digital‑human showcase combining opera and AI added a modern touch to the visit, with Mr Park from South Korea saying it allowed him to experience the expression of cultural heritage in a new and innovative way.
