Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province has recently been recognized as a national-level model city for agricultural product quality and safety, becoming the only prefecture-level city in Zhejiang to achieve such an honor.
Taizhou has made the quality and safety of agricultural products a top priority by incorporating it into the evaluation criteria for government officials. To ensure these standards are met, the city allocates an annual budget of over 40 million yuan ($5.47 million). This investment has yielded impressive results, with a significant reduction of 97.2 metric tons of chemical pesticides and nearly 60 percent of agricultural products in Taizhou now classified as green and high quality.
To further enhance food safety, Taizhou has implemented a crucial measure by establishing a comprehensive city-level and county-level regional public brand system.
One accomplishment of this initiative is the introduction of the "Taijiuxian" city-level public brand, which encompasses an impressive total of 109 authorized entities and 23 registered series of agricultural product trademarks. In addition, standards for seven leading products are currently being developed, ensuring their consistent quality and safety.
At the county level, similar public brands like "Shenxiandanong" have also been established, creating a comprehensive framework where city-level brands set the example, county-level brands showcase distinctive characteristics, and enterprise brands flourish.
