Taizhou's consumer market surges during Spring Festival

During the recent Spring Festival, the consumer market in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, took off as crowds converged on a raft of commercial activities, driving a surge in spending and infusing the streets with a real festive buzz.
The Taizhou Bureau of Commerce disclosed that the city hosted 22 big consumer events, including the Huangyan New Year Goods Week, and distributed 13.74 million yuan ($1.89 million) in consumer vouchers.
According to UnionPay data, total spending in Taizhou saw a 4.78 percent year-on-year rise during the festival period, with a peak on Feb 3 at a 39.72 percent hike.
Throughout the festival, various commercial hubs rolled out effective promotions, attracting crowds with diverse events and enhancing the festive shopping experience.
The Xinhaitiandi commercial area in Jiaojiang district attracted 586,000 visitors with sales of 8.84 million yuan in seven days since its opening on Jan 27.
Elsewhere, Ziyang Street in Linhai drew over 600,000 visitors with its delicious specialties and rich culture from Jan 29 to 31.
Moreover, Taizhou's culinary reputation got a major boost during the break in the wake of a documentary produced by the city and Tencent to showcase local delicacies and culture, attracting food enthusiasts nationwide and boosting spending even more in the city.
