A group of international visitors in traditional hanfu became the center of attention at Jiazhi ancient street in Jiaojiang district, Taizhou, Zhejiang province, on May 12, during Jiaojiang district's social sciences promotion week and experience event.
Visitors immersed in local intangible cultural heritage, sampling regional delicacies while discussing ecological conservation.
Maggie from Armenia, a tai chi enthusiast, said that Chinese martial arts films inspired her since childhood, and tai chi was her dream. Having trained for a year under Huang Daohan, a 10th-generation Du-style inheritor, she performed alongside local practitioners.
Visitors also tried their hands at paper-cutting, bamboo weaving, and tinware crafting. At the Taisilk Embroidery Museum in Taizhou, they admired textile art with combination of Chinese and western aesthetic. Later, they enjoyed the century-old local specialties like plum blossom cakes.
During the visit, participants experienced the intangible cultural heritage and the traditional hanfu. Feng Shuo from Tajikistan, said it was his first time wearing it, marveling at the delicate fabrics.
The cultural immersion continued at the Blue Cycle marine ecology education center, where exhibits demonstrated innovative plastic waste management systems. Both American and British expats praised the coastal city's sustainability efforts.
