More than 200 performers from 27 privately-run opera troupes across China brought their signature acts to the stage in Huangyan district, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on July 15.
The event featured traditional performances from Ganju Opera, Jinju Opera, Taizhou Luantan, and Wuju Opera. National-level performer Tang Shengcun captivated the crowd with her seamless costume and face changes, describing it as a hallmark of Wuju Opera that has recently gained popularity on social media platforms.
The evening was not only a display of artistry but also a grassroots celebration of traditional Chinese culture. The audience praised the intimate atmosphere and the variety of operatic forms. Attendee He Xinyi expressed her admiration for the diversity and cultural richness of the event.
The stage design incorporated local architectural features and projection technology to enhance storytelling. In one performance of Taizhou Luantan, a character from Catching Sanlang Alive appeared via hologram, blending tradition with modern elements.
The event continues through July 18 at various cultural landmarks in Huangyan, offering audiences nightly performances by top privately-run troupes and fostering exchange among artists nationwide.
