Print PrintWenling, a county-level city in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has been building a network of cultural envoys in recent years to expand its international cultural outreach.
By combining immersive teaching, cultural hubs, and digital interactions, the city is establishing a multilayered cultural exchange system that is tailored for global audiences.
Under the guidance of Taizhou-based cultural envoy Chen Zhen, a group of Russian teenagers participated recently in a hands-on workshop that explored traditional Chinese straw weaving. The craft, a recognized form of intangible cultural heritage, was met with enthusiasm and curiosity.
To date, Chen's team has introduced straw weaving courses in over 90 schools globally, including 10 prominent institutions. More than 3,000 overseas youths have engaged in learning the skill.
Elsewhere, in East Africa, cultural envoy Ruan Wenbing has promoted Wenling's culture through festive food experiences. By presenting Taizhou's local dishes and cultural themes in Uganda, he fosters cultural appreciation and mutual understanding.
In addition, Wenling launched a studio for international influencers. Focused on sharing local lifestyle content, the studio has generated over 65 million views and 2 million interactions on TikTok, gaining traction across the Arab region, including Dubai.
Wenling plans to expand its global cultural reach by integrating online and offline channels and developing a global cultural exchange network.
