The Second Hospital of Jiaxing, founded in 1895, is a comprehensive 3A-grade hospital with the most complete functions, advanced technologies and high-quality services in the city of Jiaxing. In January 2015, a new building with an overall floorage area of 53,000 square meters was put into use, greatly improving the medical environment and providing patients with a better experience.

Undertaking educational tasks of 46 medical universities and colleges, the hospital is also a national training base for general practitioners, resident doctors and nurses specializing in rehabilitation treatment.

The Second Hospital of Jiaxing has been focusing on the discipline construction. Its rehabilitation medicine and anesthesia are key disciplines supported by Zhejiang province; and meanwhile the rehabilitation medicine is a key provincial TCM discipline. The orthopedics and pediatric department are key disciplines jointly constructed and supported by Zhejiang province and Jiaxing city. The hospital's cardiology, general surgery, orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, oncology, anesthesia, radiology, gastroenterology and neurosurgery departments are key municipal resources.

The hospital has five municipal key technology innovation teams including a cardiovascular emergency diagnosis and treatment team, a neonatal critical illness diagnosis and treatment team and a modern rehabilitation team, as well as a municipal key laboratory on gastrointestinal cancer research. From 2013 to 2017, a total of 408 scientific and technological plans and projects were declared, 165 of which were approved.
