Jiaxing University is a full-time comprehensive university for regular undergraduates, approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2000. It has three campuses – Yuexiu, Lianglin and Pinghu – covering about 124 hectares. The facilities and equipment for teaching and research are valued at 312 million yuan ($44.5 million). The library has 2.3 million paper books and 1.9 million e-books.

Jiaxing University has been honored as a Zhejiang Safe Campus and Zhejiang Civilized Campus. It has 17 teaching units and an independent college, Jiaxing University Nanhu College. The university has 16,500 full-time students and 8,000 continuing education students. It has over 1,600 staff members, more than 1,000 of whom are full-time teachers. The number of teachers with associate senior titles or above exceeds 490.

The university has 55 undergraduate majors, including two national featured majors. It also has two provincial key innovation teams and four provincial teaching teams. In the past five years, Jiaxing University's teachers have undertaken 481 research projects at or above provincial and ministerial levels, including 107 State-level projects. Every year, the university recruits students from 30 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China. Moreover, it has established cooperation with 62 universities and institutes from 18 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Japan and South Korea.
