A power supply company in Pinghu, a county-level city in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, has launched a "zero certificate facial recognition application" service for local residents.
A man surnamed Feng benefited from this service when he applied for a power supply a transfer business using only facial recognition instead of offering his ID cards and certificates.
"As soon as I arrived at the power supply business hall early in the morning, I realized I'd forgotten to bring my ID card," Feng said. "When I started to go back to fetch it, a staff person there told me that I could finish my application through the facial recognition application system. Sitting in front of a camera, in less than one minute, the staff had completed verification of my personal information and had processed my application."
Since the beginning of 2019, the power supplier and government departments in Pinghu have jointly explored "Internet Plus" services, becoming the first of their kind in Zhejiang province to establish a government affairs platform relying on Jiaxing's government affairs data sharing system.
