A seminar on the development of 5G technology and digital agriculture was hosted in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on Jan 7. It focused on the upgrading and transformation of the city's agriculture sector, according to Jiaxing Online.
In recent years, Jiaxing has been making great efforts to accelerate the application of new-generation information technology, including 5G, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI), in the agricultural industry with the aim of promoting the high-quality development of the local economy, particularly the agricultural economy.
By the end of 2019, the city had achieved full informatization in 857 villages. It aims to become a model for the digital transformation of agriculture and rural areas.
Tongxiang, a county-level city in Jiaxing, has spent 11.5 million yuan ($1.66 million) applying digital technology and intelligent equipment into the agricultural sector, with a specific focus on digital agriculture.
Tongxiang, Pinghu, and Haiyan, all under the administration of Jiaxing, recently received national recognition for their promotion of the digitization of agriculture and rural areas.
"5G technology will serve as a digital infrastructure for the deep integration of cross-sector industries, and the widespread use of 5G will speed up the development of digital agriculture," said an authority of the Jiaxing Branch of China Mobile.
"In the 5G era, we will work hard to introduce more projects involving smart breeding, the application of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), and agricultural unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as promote the development of an entire industrial chain in order to accelerate the digital transformation of Jiaxing's agriculture sector," he added.
