Jiaxing secures $825m in foreign investment amid NCP outbreak

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province has secured a total of 19 foreign-invested projects worth $825 million amid the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, local media reported on Feb 20.

The projects mainly involve new materials, auto parts, environmentally-friendly materials, and healthcare. Investors hail from the United States, Germany, Spain, Malaysia, Switzerland, Taiwan, and other countries and regions.

The Jiaxing Economic and Technological Development Zone signed an online agreement with Malaysian Lion Group on Feb 20. The group plans to invest $300 million into the building of a shopping center in the zone.

The Jiaxing zone has attracted $530 million in investment in recent days, including $175 million in foreign investment.

Also on Feb 20, the Dushan Port Economic Development Zone signed a contract with DOMO Chemicals, a German supplier of cutting-edge engineering materials and sustainable plastics, during a video conference.

DOMO plans to invest 12 million euros ($12.95 million) into the establishment of a plastics manufacturing plant with an expected annual output of 700 million yuan ($99.53 million).

The Jiaxing port area has received $30.5 million in foreign investment to date, a year-on-year increase of 141.11 percent, and it is also maintaining close contact with more than 100 potential investors.

In addition to foreign investments, on Feb 18, at the Dagang toll booth of the G60 highway, the Haining Economic Development Zone reached an agreement with Shanghai Qiaochu Trading Co Ltd, an e-commerce company focusing on the wholesale and retail of baking utensils, equipment, and raw materials.

Qiaochu decided to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary called Haining Fengwei Industry Co Ltd in the zone to produce baked goods and baking ingredients, with an expected annual sales revenue of 270 million yuan.
