Jiaxing aims to become integrated transportation hub
Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province has plans to construct itself into an integrated transportation hub, local media reported on April 17.
In 2019, Jiaxing invested 16.51 billion yuan ($2.33 billion) into the construction of transportation facilities, 35.4 percent more than expected and a year-on-year increase of 11.1 percent.
The city's highway network was undergoing drastic improvement, with the second phase of the north branch of the Hangzhou Bay Sea-Crossing Bridge now open to traffic and the north branch of the Qianjiang Expressway and the Xucun section of the Shanghai-Hangzhou Highway currently under construction.
The city's inland waterway network was also taking shape last year, with construction on the Tongxiang section of the Hangzhou-Pinghu-Shanghai Waterway and the Jiaxing section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Great Canal underway, and construction on the second phase of the Huzhou-Jiaxing-Shanghai Waterway being accelerated.
The throughput of Jiaxing Port and Jiaxing's inland ports has increased. Jiaxing Port added another seven 10,000-ton berths and inland ports added another 48 berths weighing over 300 tons.
Jiaxing also launched five interprovincial bus routes to Jiangsu and Shanghai, increasing the total number of such routes to 22, and three direct bus routes to Pudong and Xiaoshan airports in 2019.
In 2020, Jiaxing plans to invest 13 billion yuan into the construction of transportation facilities, an increase of 15 percent year-on-year.
A total of 9.3 billion yuan will be allocated to road and waterway construction to build 56 kilometers of national, provincial and county highways, 38 kilometers of inland waterways, and two 10,000-ton berths.
The throughput of Jiaxing Port and Jiaxing inland ports is expected to reach 115 million tons, including 1.95 million and 280,000 containers respectively, and more than five million tons of bulk cargo will be shifted from road to water transport at Jiaxing ports.
