Two families from Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province have been selected as candidates for the Best Families in China, local media reported on April 16.

The All-China Women's Federation recently issued a notice seeking families which made outstanding contributions to the fight against the novel coronavirus pneumonia.

The family of Ding Feng, director of technology department of Jiaxing Yakangbo Medical Laboratory Co Ltd, was her main support when she led a research team to develop nucleic acid detection kits for the novel coronavirus.

Ding's research usually kept her working until early in the morning, and it was difficult for her to find time to spend with her family. Luckily, her mother-in-law came to look after the family of five, and her children even volunteered to help out with housework.

Through the joint efforts of Ding's company and four other institutions, the test kits were developed quickly and even obtained certification from the European Union.

Other candidates for the honor include Fan Weijuan and Li Minyao, mother and son. Fan is a police officer at Dongzha police station looking to retire soon. Since the second day of the Lunar New Year, she has been screening suspected COVID-19 cases and checking on residents undergoing home quarantine.

Her son is also a police officer at the Jiaxing Municipal Bureau of Public Security. He has been busy inspecting centralized quarantine sites and going door to door checking on those undergoing home quarantine.
