Jiaxing, a city in East China's Zhejiang province, announced 10 tasks to be undertaken in 2020 to improve the well-being of local residents at the fifth session of the Eighth Jiaxing Municipal People's Congress held on April 30.

The city plans to offer free eyesight examinations for 650,000 primary and secondary school and kindergarten students and improve lighting in 2,500 classrooms at primary schools and kindergartens.

Construction on 12 primary and secondary schools will be completed while construction will begin on six. The total enrollment capacity of primary and secondary schools in the city will increase by 16,500.

Nanhu Lake scenic area, famous for being the birthplace of the Communist Party of China, will be open for free to the public (not including ferry tickets) in a bid to attract more tourists and increase the influence of Jiaxing.

In addition, vehicles with no more than seven seats that have a "浙F" license plate  installed with an electronic toll collection (ETC) system will be free for travelers at 11 toll stations on Jiaxing municipal highways.

The 11 toll stations include Wangjiangjing, Xiuzhou, Majiabang, Yuxin, Fengqiao, East Wangdian, Wangdian, Nanhu, East Jiaxing, Xincheng, and Youchegang.

Jiaxing will also renovate 400 houses for poor families with senior residents, build 29 home care service centers in local towns and sub districts, and construct or renovate seven exhibition centers for assistive medical devices.

In addition, 100 provincial-level demonstration residential communities for household garbage sorting will be established in the city.

Jiaxing will also introduce physical exercise facilities in 50 communities and 30 villages and construct 30 sports fields.

Lastly, it will renovate 20 old residential communities, develop 190 scenic villages, improve 450 kilometers of road in rural areas, renovate the kitchens of 80 restaurants catering to rural familial banquets, and build 20 service stations along ordinary roads.
