Xitang, Wangdian and Puyuan, three towns in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, have made the list of China's top 100 special towns in 2020, Jiaxing Daily reported on June 30.

The list was compiled by China City News, a newspaper managed by the largest newspaper group in China – People's Daily, based on data from the National Bureau of Statistics and Sina Micro Hot Spot Big Data Institute.

Xitang town

Xitang ranks 29th on the list. As one of the birthplaces of ancient Wuyue culture, Xitang has a history of more than 2,000 years and has been shortlisted for the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List and one of China's first historical and cultural towns.

The 250,000-square meter architectural complex built in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties is the largest in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.

Wangdian town

Wangdian, formerly known as Meili, ranks 42nd on the list. It has a history of 1,000 years and is a national key town and State-level eco-friendly town.

Wangdian has been striving to become a hub for modern logistics, a special industrial town, and a livable town in recent years.

Puyuan town

Puyuan ranks 63rd on the list. In 2016, Puyuan was shortlisted to be among China's first special towns due to its strong knitwear industry.

Over the past few years, Puyuan has ramped up efforts to further develop its knitwear industry, with the aim of building itself into the best fashion town in China with an international vision.
