Scenic spots in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, have made full preparations to welcome tourists from other cities, Jiaxing Daily reported on July 20.

The action came after the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the resumption of cross-provincial (district, city) group tours on July 14, which had been suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

"This is definitely good news for us," said Zhuang Libing, manager of the tourism operation department of Jiaxing Nanhu Scenic Spot Development Co LTD.

Zhuang noted that group tours account for a lion's share of tourists to Nanhu scenic spot, and since the COVID-19 broke out earlier this year, tourists have mainly come from surrounding cities.

He said that they will focus on attracting tourists from Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces as well as Shanghai after group tours are resumed.

In order to attract more tourists, many scenic spots in Jiaxing are offering free entry but still charging for entertainment items.

Free entry brings in more tourists, which has led to a boom in the accommodation and catering sectors within scenic spots.

Zhu Jiangfeng from Yanguan Holiday Resort said that the occupancy rate of the hotel in the scenic area can reach 60 to 70 percent from Mondays to Thursdays, and it has usually been fully booked from Fridays to Sundays since the entry fee was canceled.

To offer a safe travel environment, all scenic spots in Jiaxing are required to limit the number of tourists to 50 percent of maximum capacity and and disinfect three times a day.
