Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province launched the Xincheng River route, one of the 11 water bus routes in the city, on Sept 1, local media reported.

The route connects scenic spots such as the Xinxi greenway and Penglai Morning Bell in Xiuzhou district. It starts at Urban Hall in Xincheng town and ends at Jiulihui, spanning a total length of 7.1 kilometers.

A single trip takes about 50 minutes.

Two painted pleasure boats operate along the route, each with 24 seats. Six trips are offered every day from Monday to Friday, while on weekends the number is expected to be increased to 10.

Passengers can enjoy local food such as pastries, preserved fruits, and sesame cakes and various teas such as lotus tea, lotus leaf tea, and lotus seed jelly.

During trial operations, all are welcome to take the boats free of charge.

Individuals who wish to use the boats for sightseeing are required to make reservations in advance on the WeChat account "xiuzhoushenghuo" after official operations begin.

The 11 water bus routes are expected to connect residential districts, commercial areas and scenic areas in Jiaxing, creating a unique water transportation system.

The routes are expected to extend 100 km in total, and will pass by 24 wharfs and two water transport service centers.
