Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province climbed four spots to 41st nationwide in GDP in the first half of this year, local media reported on Sept 2.

In the first six months, the city's GDP grew by 0.6 percent, higher than the national and provincial averages.

Both the number of overseas engineers and the number of high-profile professionals coming to work in Jiaxing ranked highly among Zhejiang cities, and a number of high-level research institutions started operating in the city during that same period.

The added value of the high-tech manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and equipment manufacturing industries in Jiaxing ranked second among Zhejiang cities, while the city's semiconductor and biological medicine industries were on the rise in the first half of this year.

The water quality of the city's river (controlled by the State) and drinking water sources met national standards, and its air quality further improved in the Jan-June period.

Moreover, the city has also strengthened its "At Most One Visit" reform to create a more favorable business environment.
