Jiaxing Port in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, ranked 91st around the world in terms of comprehensive strength, five places higher than last year, on a list of the top 100 container ports in the world recently published by Lloyd's List.

Statistics show that in the first eight months of this year, the container throughput of Jiaxing Port totaled 1.16 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), among which 1.03 million TEUs were delivered at the Zhapu Port Area.

The number of containers shipped via sea-river combined transportation at the Zhapu Port Area soared 49.4 percent year-on-year to 184,800 TEUs in the Jan-Aug period.

Jiaxing Port is the only sea port in northern Zhejiang with a 4,000-kilometer waterway currently open to traffic. It offers nine routes connecting it with surrounding ports.

Thanks to supporting policies issued by the local municipal government last year, sea-river combined transportation has been developing rapidly at Jiaxing Port.

Moreover, the Zhapu Port Area has expanded its business scope to weather the COVID-19 outbreak in China in the first half of this year by enhancing cooperation with inland ports, international logistics companies, and cargo and shipping companies and improving its sea-river combined transportation system.

Lloyd's List is a London-based world-leading source of news, analysis, and data related to the shipping industry.

Its list showed that 23 ports on the Chinese mainland made the list, and aside from the second-place Singapore Port, the rest of the top five spots were occupied by Chinese ports, namely Shanghai Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, Shenzhen Port, and Guangzhou Port.
