Jiaxing's foreign trade up 29.7% in October

Jiaxing's foreign trade grew 29.7 percent year-on-year to 30.16 billion yuan ($4.58 billion) in October alone, according to an announcement by Jiaxing Customs.

The exports in the city soared 26.9 percent to 22.17 billion yuan while the imports spiked 38.2 percent to 7.99 billion yuan in the same month.

In October, the five largest export markets for Jiaxing were the United States, the European Union, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Japan, and Latin America with export values of 5.91 billion yuan, 3.84 billion yuan, 2.63 billion yuan, 1.48 billion yuan and 1.2 billion yuan respectively.

Jiaxing also exported 6.51 billion yuan worth of products to the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative in October, a 26.8 percent year-on-year increase. The city's imports from these countries in the same month surged 140 percent year-on-year to 3.78 billion yuan.

In October, exports of "Stay at Home Economy" commodities like toys and lightings increased by 72.7 percent and 52.7 percent respectively in Jiaxing.

The exports of high-tech products in the city have maintained double-digit growth in the past eight months. In October, Jiaxing exported 4.66 billion yuan worth of high-tech products, a yearly growth of 160 percent.

The foreign trade in the city totaled 243.06 billion yuan in the first 10 months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 5.5 percent.

The exports in the city jumped 6.8 percent year-on-year to 182.16 billion yuan while imports grew 1.8 percent year-on-year to 60.89 billion yuan in the same period.
