The first 5G-enabled cloud clinic in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, began operating on Dec 14, local media reported.

The cloud clinic, located in Guiyuan Community, Nanhu district, offers comprehensive online and offline services to patients with the help of personal health big data and streamlines medical procedures at hospitals.

Shen Yiyu, director of the Jiaxing Nanhu District Central Hospital, said that the cloud clinic frees people with chronic illnesses and follow-up patients from the hassle of registration and wait times.

Seventy-one-year-old Wang Suzhen of Guiyuan Community has been diagnosed with chronic diseases commonly seen in the elderly, including high blood pressure and diabetes, and thus needs to visit the doctor frequently.

"Seeing a doctor at the hospital usually takes a long time and involves registering, diagnosis, and preparation of medicine, all of which have a long queue" said Wang.

At the 5G-enabled clinic, she just needs to swipe her ID card on the registration machine, then enter the consultation machine room to undergo a remote diagnosis with doctors from local hospitals who are currently available before finally getting her prescription, according to Wang.

She said that the entire process takes less than 10 minutes and it is so convenient for senior citizens.

As the first intelligent community in Jiaxing, Guiyuan Community has also established a health center to offer senior residents self-service physical examinations. The center helps doctors follow up on patients' health conditions.

Guiyuan Community is currently home to more than 1,700 residents aged above 60, accounting for nearly one third of its total registered population.
