Qian Juntao (1906-1998), a Jiaxing native, was a renowned seal engraver, calligrapher, and painter.
Qian, who graduated from Shanghai Art Normal University in 1925, was a student of Feng Zikai, a fellow Jiaxing native renowned for his comics. Qian also taught himself Western painting, calligraphy, seal carving and traditional Chinese painting.
In 1948, Qian held a solo exhibition in Shanghai to showcase his calligraphy, painting, and seal carving works. He also designed covers for the books of renowned Chinese writers, including Mao Dun and Ba Jin.
Qian held several appointments through his career, including the editor-in-chief of People's Music Publishing House, deputy editor-in-chief of Shanghai Music Publishing House, vice-chairman of Xiling Society of Seal Arts, and professor of Department of Art Education at East China Normal University.
