Three counties or county-level cities in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province recently made the list of top 100 counties in e-commerce competitiveness in China, local media reported on Feb 20.

The list was compiled based on eight indicators, namely supporting hardware, supporting policies, coordinated industrial chain, website visitor volume, user satisfaction, economic benefits, platform function and design, as well as logistics service.

The survey scope covers all of the 2,758 counties or county-level cities on the Chinese mainland.

Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Jiangsu provinces demonstrated their strength in e-commerce business, as among the 100 listed counties, 17 were from Zhejiang, while 13 were from Guangdong and Jiangsu respectively.

Jiaxing's Haining came in second place, followed by Tongxiang (13th) and Jiashan (48th).

Haining has laid a solid foundation for e-commerce development by establishing platforms for cross-border e-commerce traders, as well as by offering services to local cross-border e-commerce and foreign trade companies, including talent training, professional guidance, and resource sharing.

For the county, 2020 was a year of livestreaming as it organized an e-commerce festival, established a livestreaming base for Douyin, a short-video platform in China, and cooperated with Alibaba Group.

"In recent years, Haining has constructed an online and offline marketing system relying on its industrial advantages in textiles and leather. As a result, e-commerce has gradually become Haining's new calling card," said a staff member from the local commerce bureau.

According to the staff member, more than 60 percent of clothing e-commerce companies above designated size in Haining have participated in livestreaming and at present, more than 3,000 e-commerce companies in the county have opened stores on Taobao, Tmall, JD, and other e-commerce platforms.
