Jiaxing ancient towns chosen as pilot restoration areas

Two ancient towns in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, have recently been selected as pilot areas for restoration along with nine other towns in the province, according to local media reports.

The selected towns each have a history of at least 1,000 years and are required to have their historic features intact, profound culture and no more than 1 square kilometers of core area protection area.

Established in 655 AD, Yanguan town had served as the seat of the Ninghai county government before the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).

The town has been prosperous since ancient times and boasts numerous cultural attractions, including the Temple of Sea God, Jiangnan Folk Custom House, and Residence of Chen Gelao, the teacher of the crown prince during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Among them, the most important attraction is the Tide Watching Park as the town is the best place to watch the world-famous Qiantang bore.

Chongfu town has a history of 1,020 years and is the only town along the ancient canal between Hangzhou and Jiaxing.

In recent years, Chongfu has won both national and provincial recognitions for its economic strength, long history and profound culture.
