An exhibition of paintings, calligraphy works, and photos by women was held in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on March 4, marking the opening of the fifth Jiaxing Civic Culture and Arts Festival, Jiaxing Daily reported.

The exhibition showcases 100 artworks by 100 female artists in the city in celebration of International Women's Day.

Jiang Chenjia is a female artist working for the Jiashan Culture Center. According to her, creators of the exhibits "record the cultural inheritance, urban development, life changes, and progress of civilization from a female's perspective".

Like Jiang, most creators at the exhibit are passionate about life and love depicting the charm and beauty of females with their brushes and cameras in their spare time.

The fifth Jiaxing Civic Culture and Arts Festival, organized by the Jiaxing bureau of culture, broadcasting, television, and tourism and the Jiaxing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, will run until December this year.

During this period, a series of activities involving artistic performances, reading, and mass culture will be held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

In recent years, Jiaxing has been promoting the integration of public culture services between urban and rural areas by building libraries and culture centers in rural areas. For the past seven years, the city has led Zhejiang in grassroots public culture services.
