The Jiaxing Economic Development Zone in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, processed the first cross-province household registration transfer on March 5, Jiaxing Daily reported.

"The procedure is quite simple and fast and my problem has been entirely solved," said  Chen, the recipient of the transfer.

Chen comes from Xinghua, Jiangsu province and has lived and worked in Jiaxing for eight years. He has always wanted to transfer his household registration to the city.

He had consulted with local policeman many times about transferring his household registration and learned that he would have to travel back and forth between Xinghua and Jiaxing four times. He thus decided to give up on the idea.

After the new household transfer policy was rolled out across the province and the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), local policeman informed Chen of the good news.

Under the new policy, Chen only needed to apply at the local police station, and it took him just five minutes to finish the entire procedure.

Moreover, those who want to transfer their registration to Zhejiang can apply through several online service platforms.

The YRD is a triangle-shaped megalopolis made up of Shanghai, Jiangsu province, Zhejiang province, and Anhui province. It generates around 20 per cent of the country's GDP.
