The cargo throughput of Jiaxing Port in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, experienced a double-digit increase in the first two months of this year, local media reported on March 17.

The inland ports' cargo throughput soared 64.18 percent year-on-year to 14.44 million metric tons, while their container throughput jumped 19.88 percent year-on-year to 47,800 twenty-feet equivalent units (TEUs) during the same period.

The coastal ports' cargo throughput surged 41.23 percent year-on-year to 18.64 million tons, while their container throughput jumped 34.49 percent year-on-year to 287,900 TEUs.

In addition, Jiaxing ports saw 256,200 tons of cargo throughput involving foreign trade.

The bulk cargo throughput in Jiaxing's coastal ports also reported rapid growth in the first two months, with the throughput of coal and related products increasing 41.62 year-on-year.

This large increase of Jiaxing Port's cargo throughput can be mainly attributed to the following.

Wharf infrastructure at the port has been further improved, a series of public and private wharves have begun operating, and the number of multi-purpose berths has increased.

Thanks to resources from neighboring ports, the cargo throughput of Jiaxing Port is expected to continue increasing in the second quarter of this year.
